Memorial Day Weekend weather in NYC shaping up to be unsettled. Here's the forecast.

It's going to be a soggy start to summer with rainy weather for the Memorial Day Weekend.

While Friday offered a bit of a break, you'll want to keep the umbrella close by as we head into Saturday and Sunday.

Both are First Alert Weather Days for rain that will be heavy at times.

March-like temperatures Saturday

The wet weather becomes more widespread on Saturday, with periods of moderate rain. A stiff breeze coming off the still-frigid Atlantic Ocean will keep temperatures in the 50s all day, making it feel more like March than May.

There is a High Surf Advisory on Saturday for the Jersey Shore due to waves that could range between 4-7 feet, and a High Rip Current Risk on Saturday for all Atlantic Ocean beaches.

The rain starts to pick up in earnest by Saturday night, becoming heavy at times.

Sunday forecast

That heavy rain will linger into Sunday morning, before turning more showery by the afternoon hours.

Highs Sunday will still be on the cool side, only topping out in the low 60s.

Memorial Day forecast

Even though Saturday night through Sunday morning is likely the wettest period of the holiday weekend, we're still not done with the rain on Memorial Day itself.

On that day, a chance of showers will linger through the day, however, it will be warmer with some peeks of sun and highs getting into the 70s.

How much rain to expect

Despite the holiday weekend mostly being a washout, because the rain will be falling over a few days, the flash flood threat is not high. Ponding on roads may occur, along with travel disruptions.

In general, an average of 2 inches of rain is expected for the Tri-State Area. Some locations may receive as much as 4 inches of rain before the holiday weekend ends.
