Widespread severe weather threat in North Texas Tuesday night into Wednesday
A First Alert Weather Day is in effect Tuesday night through Wednesday in North Texas.
For Tuesday night, we'll primarily be watching for a damaging wind and large hail threat, as storms roll into our western and northwestern counties.
This is ahead of a dryline back through West Texas, and a frontal boundary draped across the Panhandle.
A severe thunderstorm warning is issued for Cooke County until 1 a.m.
A flash flood warning is issued for Montague County until 1 a.m.
A tornado watch is issued for Cooke, Grayson, Jack, Montague, Wise and Young counties until 1 a.m.
A flood watch is in effect for Montague, Cooke, Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, Young, Jack, Wise, Denton, Collin, Hunt, Delta and Hopkins counties through Thursday morning.
As those storms travel farther to the east, and closer to the 35 corridor, they should start to lose some steam, as they travel farther from the frontal boundary.
The storms are expected to die down close to midnight, followed by a brief lull in activity early overnight.
By the Wednesday morning commute, we'll be looking at scattered storms, primarily in our WNW areas.
That threat becomes more widespread, and shifts into the metroplex and east of 35 as we get into Wednesday afternoon and evening.
All threats are on the table here, with large hail and strong winds being the primary threats, but we'll also be watching the potential for tornadoes.
On top of that, an elevated flood risk, with heavy rains falling on top of already very saturated soils.
That all tapers off early overnight into Thursday, where we'll get a brief break with some sunshine, and highs in the middle 80s.
By Friday, we'll once again be tracking scattered thunderstorms, primarily during the morning and afternoon. Once again, we'll be tracking the threat for strong to severe thunderstorms during this timeframe, which is why we have issued another First Alert Weather Day for Friday.
This weekend looks to feature lots of dry time, with highs in the upper 70s, and just isolated shower chances.
