Doctor reacts to mounting coronavirus fear

California health officials are rushing coronavirus testing kits to a cruise ship docked off-shore. A passenger who had disembarked within two weeks prior died on Wednesday, becoming the state’s first coronavirus-linked fatality. Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency to try and rush federal and state efforts to contain the virus. Dr. David Agus joins “CBS This Morning” to respond to the latest updates on the potential outbreak.

Scientists are building a new Mars rover

The Curiosity rover is still exploring Mars’ rocky surface eight years after landing on Earth’s neighboring planet. Some experts believe Mars could have been much more Earth-like 3.5 billion years ago, with water flowing through ancient rivers and lakes. To continue the quest for knowledge, NASA will be launching a new rover and is set to announce its name after a contest among students to name it. Mark Strassmann reports on the $2 billion mission from the California laboratory where the new rover was built.

Coronavirus-related racism seeps into U.S.

As the U.S. panics over potential coronavirus outbreaks, racism and discrimination against Asian Americans is on the rise. Restaurants and businesses with Asian or Asian American owners from California to New York report seeing drops in sales. Weijia Jiang speaks to people in New York’s Chinatown, including the owner of a popular restaurant who says he has lost over a million dollars since people began fearing coronavirus transmission.
