While cardinals were electing Pope Leo XIV in Vatican City, a group of Philadelphia students were selecting a pontiff of their own.
The Philadelphia region wasted no time honoring Pope Leo XIV, a Villanova University alumnus, with billboards hours after he was chosen to lead the Catholic Church.
On the second day of the conclave at the Vatican, the cardinal electors chose Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Prevost as the new pope, Leo XIV.
While Pope Leo XIV was being introduced to the world as the next pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, students at St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia were selecting a pope of their own in a mock classroom conclave.
Cardinal Robert Prevost, a Villanova University graduate, has been chosen as the next leader of the world's 1.4 billion Catholics and the first pope born in the United States. Prevost chose Leo XIV as his papal name. CBS News Philadelphia has live reaction from around the region.
