New Jersey's statewide learning standards already required some diversity education in lessons, requirements that were expanded in 2021 under a state law requiring districts to incorporate instruction on diversity and inclusion.
Gov. Phil Murphy highlighted the change Wednesday.
The law goes into effect in May.
Murphy didn't mention Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis by name, but alluded to his recent second inaugural address in which he said Florida is where "woke goes to die."
