The ball has dropped in front of a throng of 1 million in Times Square, and 2013 has arrived.
The incident took place at the 42nd Street and 8th Avenue station on the northbound platform just before 10 a.m.

The ball is comprised of nearly 2,700 Waterford crystals and 32, 256 LED lights and weighs 12,000 pounds – nearly six tons.
When asked whether the unlucky number of 13 in the coming year was something to be concerned about, a resounding 97 percent of respondents answered, 'who cares.'
