In a mission more than two decades in the making, NASA launched the most expensive science probe ever built Saturday, a $10 billion telescope that will attempt to capture starlight from the first galaxies to be born in the fiery crucible of the Big Bang.
"The asteroid we are trying to hit is about the size of a football stadium," said Lori Glaze, director of NASA's Planetary Science Division. "And we're going to try and hit it with something the size of a refrigerator."
If NASA goes ahead with the launch Saturday, it will likely be too cloudy to see the rocket from the New York City area.
