Yankees' Andy Pettitte To Earn Full $2.5 Million Salary Thursday

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — Andy Pettitte will be guaranteed his full $2.5 million from the Yankees come Thursday.

Pettitte was put on the major league roster Sunday after missing the 2011 season. His contract calls for a $2 million base salary, and since he missed the first 39 days of the season the prorated share of his base pay is $1,573,770.

His contract calls for two roster bonuses: $500,000 for five days and $250,000 for 10 days. It also calls for performance bonuses of $500,000 for one start and $250,000 each for two and three starts.

However, the contract says his total of base salary and earned bonuses cannot exceed $2.5 million.

The 39-year-old left-hander allowed four runs and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings during a 6-2 loss to Seattle.

"To me, he looked like he hadn't missed a beat," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi.

Pettitte and the Yankees hope the reunion will last well into the MLB postseason.

"There is not a question in my mind how this is all going to play out for me," said Pettitte. "It's not about this one start. I'll measure if this was a successful return or not at the end of October."
