NYPD Retraining Officers After Motorists Complain About Wrongful Ticketing

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- NYPD officers are being retrained after motorists complain about wrongful ticketing.

WCBS 880's Kelly Waldron reported the move comes in the wake of incidents in which motorists were being ticketed for parking in legal spaces.

T-intersections in particular, where a long street meets a shorter one-way.

A regulation change in 2009 allows parking at these intersections as they don't have traffic signals, all-way stop signs or crosswalk markings.

City Councilmember Vincent Gentile wrote a letter to NYPD brass after large numbers of motorists complained about being unfairly ticketed.

The NYPD responded, saying officers are being retrained and police supervisors are being directed to conduct spot checks to identify and reinstruct any cop who wrongly issues a summons.
