1 dead, 27 injured in Chicago weekend shootings, according to CPD

At least one person was killed, and 27 more were injured, in weekend shootings across Chicago as of Sunday.

The ages of the victims range from 14 to 46, according to Chicago police.

Shootings from Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 33-year-old man was struck in the shoulder by gunfire while in the 4600 block of South Evans Avenue around 5:49 p.m.

Police said the victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. They said the victim was uncooperative with responding officers.

In that same time frame, in the 1500 block of North Lockwood Avenue, around 5:50 p.m., a 24-year-old man was near the front of a residence when he was hit in the leg by gunfire from an unknown gunman.

He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. 

Later in the evening, around 10:38 p.m., police officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 6600 block of South Wolcott Avenue.

Preliminary investigation indicated that an unknown offender pulled out a gun and shot into a crowd of people who were standing outside, hitting three of them.

All three were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

A 16-year-old boy was hit in the neck and on the side of his body. The victim self-transported in critical condition.

A 28-year-old man was shot in the left arm and the right foot. He was taken by the Chicago Fire Department in good condition.

A 40-year-old man was hit in the hip. He self-transported in good condition.

A firearm was recovered on the scene. Police did not say if anyone was in custody.

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday:

  • At 11:10 p.m. in the 10500 block of South Halsted Street, officers responded to a call of a person shot. The victim, a 34-year-old man, was standing outside when he heard multiple shots and felt pain. He was hit in the right leg and was taken to Christ Hospital in good condition. 

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 2:57 a.m. in the 3500 block of East 100th Street, a 24-year-old woman was driving her vehicle when a black vehicle occupied by an unknown gunman approached her. She then heard multiple loud noises and felt pain. The victim was hit in the right shoulder and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition. The black vehicle fled the scene.
  • At 3:50 a.m. in the 5100 block of South Halsted Street, a  20-year-old man was outside when he heard shots and then felt pain. He was shot in his left leg and self-transported to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.  
  • At 5:50 p.m. in the 3800 block of South Artesian Avenue, two boys, 14 and 15, were near the sidewalk when they were hit by gunfire. The 14-year-old was hit in the stomach and leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. The 15-year-old was hit in the arm and also taken to Stroger in good condition.
  • At 9:09 p.m., an 18-year-old man was riding a scooter along the 4300 and 4400 blocks of South Wood Street when he passed a group of people. The group shouted something at the victim, and one person within the group shot him twice in the right leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in good condition.
  •  At 11:25 p.m., a 20-year-old man was exiting a store in the 2700 block of West North Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain. He was shot in the right shin and was taken to Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital in good condition.
  • At 11:45 p.m., someone took out a gun and opened fire into a group of people standing outside in the 8000 block of South Morgan Street. Two separate parties within the group were involved in a quarrel before the shooting. A 25-year-old woman suffered multiple gunshot wounds to her body and died at the University of Chicago Medical Center, while a 36-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and right calf and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in fair condition.

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 2:47 a.m., a woman opened fire from a distance at three men in the 2900 block of West Irving Park Road. A 31-year-old man was shot in the right calf and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in fair condition, a 37-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, and a 38-year-old man was shot in the leg and was taken to the same hospital in fair condition.
  • Between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., a 46-year-old man was standing outside in the 8100 block of South Kingston Avenue, quarreling with another man. The second man took out a gun and shot the first man in the right foot. The first man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition, while the second man left.
  • At 6:47 a.m., a 20-year-old man was standing outside in the 1100 block of West Fulton Market when four men approached, and one took out a gun and shot him in the left foot. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in good condition. The shooters fled the scene east on Fulton Market/Fulton Street in a dark gray Dodge Durango.
  • At 4 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Stony Island Avenue, a 33-year-old man was near the sidewalk when he was approached by an unknown gunman who fired shots. The victim was hit in the head and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition. 
  • At 6:23 p.m. in the 5900 block of West Iowa Street, a 34-year-old man was near the street when he was hit in the hip by gunfire. The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
  • At 7:46 p.m. in the 5400 block of South Laflin Street, three men were near the sidewalk when they were approached by an unknown vehicle, and two occupants from within pulled out guns and fired shots. A 29-year-old was hit in the hand, a 30-year-old was shot in both legs, and a 31-year-old was hit in the arm. All three were taken to hospitals in fair condition. 
  • At 8:51 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Morgan Street, police responded to a report of a person shot and found a 34-year-old man who was uncooperative with details regarding the shooting. The victim had a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was taken to the U of C Medical Center in good condition. 
  • At 9:10 p.m. in the 10900 block of South Avenue B, police responded to a call for service and found a 23-year-old man shot in the thigh. The victim told officers that he was inside a residence when gunfire pierced through the front door and hit him. The victim was taken to the U of C Medical Center in good condition. 

Shootings from Monday

  • At 12:19 a.m., a 38-year-old man was traveling in a vehicle in the 7600 block of South South Chicago Avenue when he was shot by someone possible traveling in a black vehicle. The victim suffered a graze wound to the head and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital in good condition.
  • At 2:26 a.m., a 41-year-old woman was outside in the 4200 block of West Le Moyne Street when she was shot multiple times throughout her body. She was unable to provide further details and was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in serious condition.

Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in the above incidents.
