NYPD: Suspect Bilked Nearly $10K In Queens Apartment Scam
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD is looking for the whereabouts of a man wanted in a Queens apartment scam that took place last October and November.
All six victims caught up in the scam called a phone number on a flyer that was posted on a utility pole and set up appointments to see vacant apartments.
After the showings, the suspect requested that a deposit be paid to hold the apartment.
After the victims tried to contact the suspect when they wanted to move in, the cell number they called was found to be disconnected.
The suspect stole nearly $10,000 from the victims, collecting deposits of between $1,400 to $2,300.
Police described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his 30's, between 5'8" and 5'10" and 150 pounds with dark hair.
