NYC's 5 Best Frozen Hot Chocolate Drinks

Frozen hot chocolate was made famous by one New York City institution, but the drink doesn't quite have the same Big Apple following as say, Cronuts. The intriguing take on frozen hot chocolate at Brooklyn's The Chocolate Room was a bit of a happy accident. The shop's pastry chef invented the recipe -- hot chocolate with a scoop of homemade bourbon vanilla ice cream -- for her own enjoyment. When the store owners stumbled upon her drinking it one day, they tried it. "We loved it and added it to our menu," Naomi Josepher told CBSNewYork. "The [ice cream and hot chocolate] provide an amazing taste experience of hot and cold, as well as the very popular chocolate and vanilla pairing."

At this bustling SoHo coffee shop, customers receive a tiny piece of chocolate with hot coffee orders -- but if you really want your fix of the good stuff, order the shop's "Ice Chocolate." The drink comes in Aroma's signature red cups. Made with chocolate and milk, the concoction is blended with ice for a sweet but not too sweet combination of delicious and cool flavors.

This tourist attraction, made popular by the romantic comedy of the same name, is not just for out-of-towners. Known for creating the original frozen hot chocolate, New Yorkers shouldn't miss this dessert haven. Frrrozen Hot Chocolate is served in a large glass, topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Mix it up with their newer varieties, like Peanut Butter Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, Frrrozen Mochaccino or Frrrozen Pineapple Lime for a twist on a classic New York favorite.

The hardest part of drinking Jacques Torres' frozen hot chocolate is doing it slowly. It's so good you may not be able to stop until it's all gone. Show some self control – or at least try. Known as Mr. Chocolate, Jacques Torres' multiple NYC locations serve a fudgesicle-like frozen hot chocolate to cool you down during these last hazy weeks of summer.
