Missing Staten Island Man's Body Found Offshore From Bayonne, N.J.

BAYONNE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A body found offshore from Bayonne, New Jersey last week was confirmed Monday to be that of a 25-year-old Staten Island man who had had been missing for a week.

Around 2:15 p.m. this past Friday, a passerby walking his dog saw the body floating on the shoreline of Kill Van Kull Park in Bayonne, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's office.

The body was removed from the water by Bayonne fire crews, prosecutors said.

The body was identified as that of a 25-year-old man from Staten Island who had been missing since Friday, Oct. 10, prosecutors said.

John Casalaspro of West Brighton had been hanging out with three friends along the waters of the Kill Van Kull at Bard Avenue and Richmond Terrace on Staten Island, police said.

His friends said he walked away at about 1 a.m. that day and was not seen again.
