BORDENTOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Members of our armed services lucky enough to be home for the holidays can sometimes find themselves short on cash.

A group of farmers in New Jersey came together Wednesday to lend a helping hand, presenting free Christmas trees to servicemen and women at the Joint Military Family Assistance Facility in Bordentown.

"It means a lot because the fact that someone has not just thought of themselves, they thought of others," said Technical Sergeant Janeen Macgray.

The average Christmas tree can run anywhere from $50 to $110 depending on its size, a lot for some of today's recipients who are part-time military, juggling civilian duties as well in order to make ends meat.

"They do struggle, a lot of them are part time soldiers so they have a hard time getting jobs," said Command Sergeant Sean Chapman. "A lot of people go without trees so being able to provide them makes a difference."

Sergeant First Class Albert Veltri is excited to bring the tree home to his family in Toms River.

"They're looking forward to the holiday season as much as I am," said Veltri.

As CBS2's Meg Baker reported, more than 110 trees were donated by twelve different farms.
