Megan Thee Stallion released from hospital after leaving "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" mid-performance

Megan Thee Stallion was released from a New York City hospital Wednesday after she got sick during a performance of "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" the night before.

A spokesperson for the singer told CBS News New York in a statement that the performer started feeling very ill mid-show and was transported to the hospital.

"My body finally said enough"

On Wednesday, the spokesperson said the doctors "identified extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction and low metabolic levels as the cause of her symptoms."

The 31-year-old performer posted on Instagram that she has been pushing herself, "running on empty, and my body finally said enough," adding, "It honestly scared me."

She said she thought she was going to faint on stage. She is now resting.

The rapper made her Broadway debut last week, taking over the role of Zidler. She made history as the first woman to play the character.

Megan Thee Stallion to rejoin "Moulin Rouge"

Megan Thee Stallion vowed to be back in her role Thursday and is scheduled to remain with the cast through May 17.
