Man dead in Massapequa stabbing as police take woman into custody
A man was stabbed to death in a home on Long Island on Monday morning, Nassau County police said.
There was a large police presence near Massapequa High School following the fatal stabbing inside a home on Beaumont Avenue in Massapequa Lake, about half a mile from the school.
Police have not confirmed the identity of the male victim, but neighbors said he lived with his parents and was well known in the area, where his aunts, uncles and siblings also own homes.
Police didn't release much by way of details, saying only the victim was 28 years old and died at the scene. A 22-year-old woman has been arrested. A police source said she was found hiding in the victim's home.
Relatives gathered down the street at the home of the victim's sister, searching for answers and wondering how and why this happened.
A friend of the victim claims he met the suspect at a bar. She then returned to the home the victim shares with his parents, according to the friend.
Neighbors said they spoke to family members who converged on their street in tears in the middle of the night.
"Crying, and he said his brother-in-law was stabbed to death, which stunned me," neighbor Paul Forman said. "It's just an emotional mess."
Police went door to door securing video from cameras in homes along Beaumont Avenue and Polo Road. They also secured a hard drive at the crime scene.
Neighbors said they woke to the intense police presence as helicopters moved in and their street was closed off.
"I obviously didn't sleep much because of all the craziness. It's police, the helicopter was circling for a few hours and they were searching with the dogs, I guess, looking for the person who did it," Janine Cassarino said.
"I don't know how something like this happens, especially in this town. This town is very quiet," Anthony Boccia added.
