Long Island Woman Runs 7th Marathon In 7 Days To Raise Money For Veterans

MEDFORD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island woman is running her seventh marathon in seven days to raise money for veterans.

Eva Casale was all smiles as she began the marathon Friday. The Glen cove resident said the weather has been challenging, but she focuses on the veterans and those who lost their lives overseas as she tries to raise $100,000 for veterans services.

"It is a challenge physically but when I feel sometimes a little tired, sometimes a little sore, but it's temporary," she told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall. "What I feel is nothing compared to what those who fight for our freedoms do every day and what they've been through, all of our veterans."

Throughout the week, she has visited a number of special places.

"Calverton Cemetary and we honored three of our fallen from Suffolk County," she said. "You know, we made an effort to find those grave sites and we made sure we laid flowers and paid our respects."

This isn't Casale's first marathon challenge. In the last two years, she ran to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
