It's Halloween Season And Agritourism Season, Too

JAMESPORT, NY (WCBS 880) - At Gabrielsen's Country Plant Farm on Long Island's North Fork, the cornfield is actually grown not to harvest, but for kids to play in.

LISTEN: WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reports

It's called agritainment.

"This is what keeps us going," George Gabrielsen, who owns the farm, tells WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. "The days of growing crops in the field and wholesaling to market are over. So, this is a great way to keep the farms, and also to preserve the farms and rural way of life, and, uh, just a great time for everybody."

There are hay rides. There is pumpkin picking. Plus, there is the cornfield maze and Halloween horror house.

It's new age farming and people love it.

Gabrielsen says, "We've got, like, a ten-mile backup of cars. All the farm scenes are all flourishing."
