'Completely Invented Scenario': Christie Spokesman Denies Report Governor Fetched Trump's McDonald's Order

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Chris Christie was not loving a report from the New Yorker claiming that he fetched Donald Trump's McDonald's order.

Ryan Lizza of the New Yorker wrote in a story posted Monday that Christie has become a "manservant" for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

"Governor Chris Christie, of New Jersey, another of Trump's opponents early in the campaign, has transformed himself into a sort of manservant, who is constantly with Trump at events," Lizza wrote. "(One Republican told me that a friend of his on the Trump campaign used Snapchat to send him a video of Christie fetching Trump's McDonald's order.)"

A Christie spokesman called the report a "completely invented scenario."

"We categorically deny this ridiculous, completely invented scenario, which the writer attributed to an unnamed source's anonymous friend," spokesman Brian Murray told Business Insider. "The fact the writer relegated this bit of sleaze between parentheses certainly indicates he knew it was trash that had to be separated from the rest of the story."

Christie has had to continuously defend his support for Trump and was roundly mocked on social media months ago for facial expressions he was making while standing behind the billionaire during a press conference.

A Fairleigh Dickinson poll from last month revealed that only 26 percent of New Jersey residents approved of Christie, which was a new low.
