B&C Morning Show: A.J. Burnett Stirs Up Pinstripe Panic
This is not A.J-oke.
After winning 97 games and an AL East crown during the regular season, tonight in Detroit the Yankees' entire season comes down to a start by A.J. Burnett (see what I did there?).
The Tigers will counter with 22-year-old Rick Porcello, who is a native of Morristown, NJ.
CC Sabathia was 'out-aced' by Justin Verlander last night - neither starter was great but Verlander pitched well enough to earn the win, while the 'hefty-lefty' walked the ballpark. So this morning was all about reflection.
Boomer & Craig discussed last night's Bombers loss, focusing on CC's subpar performance, the Yankees' silent bats and Joe Girardi's questionable decision to pitch Rafael Soriano for more than one inning. Soriano yielded the go-ahead home run to Delmon Young in the 7th, after relieving the 'hefty-lefty' in the 6th. It was the first time this season he pitched in more than one inning (he did it once last year in Seattle).
Speaking of the 'hefty-lefty,' Boomer & Craig expressed their concern for CC's well-being after the 300-plus pound lefty labored through his 5 1/3 innings. Craig also referenced the chances that Sabathia will opt-out of his current deal during the off-season, advising him to do what he wants but reminding him that he did not pitch like an ace last night in the MotorCity.
