5 Best Summer Culinary Pop-Ups In NYC

Foodies looking for a few new culinary destinations should be happy to know that pop-up restaurants and festivals are taking place all over the city this summer. Here are five of our favorites. By Carly Petrone.

Fans of Top Chef will be happy to know that two of the show's alum's, Leah Cohen and Hung Huynh, will be highlighting some of the best in Vietnamese cuisine during A Vietnam Voyage a one-night culinary pop-up happening on June 9. Starting at 6 p.m. guests can dine on two courses as well as a dessert and specialty cocktails that focus on regional delicacies that go beyond pho and banh mi. The key ingredient? Red Boat Fish Sauce. Come find out what dishes these talented chefs whip up using this popular condiment. Tickets are $65 and an additional seating at 10 p.m. has just been added. Nosh on 100% American Kobe beef hot dogs at the Kings of Kobe, a pop-up shop located right next to Pounds & Ounces in Chelsea. Choose from one of two classic creations like the Classic K – Kobe Cocktail Dog with onion marmalade, sauerkraut, and yellow mustard – and a rotating weekly special like the BLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato, balsamic glaze, and mayo), The Life (sweet and sour sauce, raisins, mustard greens, truffle honey drizzle), the Whoo-Ah! (chile salsa, chipotle aioli, avocado, crispy bacon bits), or the Almost PB&J (sheep's milk cheese, blackberry jam, mint). These original dogs are $6.50/each and available Monday – Friday from noon to 3:30 p.m. You may not be able to eat a typical street cart hot dog after experiencing these tasty creations.

Get ready because Taste Asia is taking over Times Square June 26-27. Master chefs from around the world and some of New York's finest will showcase their abilities using Taste Asia's trademark fully equipped outdoor kitchens. Many of today's best restaurants will be on site to provide tastings and there will also be a live stage featuring Asian cultural performances like a special Dumpling Making & Eating Contest. Make sure to vote for your favorite Asian restaurant for the chance to win a roundtrip ticket to Asia. Just a few of this year's participants include The Handpulled Noodle, Totto Ramen, Nyonya, and Obao Noodles & BBQ. Don't miss out on the largest Asian food festival in North America! The folks behind UrbanSpace just launched their exciting new market at One Penn Plaza. Penn Plates offers hungry customers some of the best food during prime al fresco dining season. Just a few of the vendors include Roberta's, Calexico, Uma Temakeria, Gelato Ti Amo, and Melt Ice Cream Sandwiches. This exciting new space will be open 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. through Nov. 15. Come get your grub on this summer!

Take a break from shopping in Herald Square and stop by Broadway Bites in Greeley Square Park. Located at the intersection of 33rd Street and Broadway, this semi-annual pop-up market brings together New York City's most popular chefs and small culinary businesses and artisan producers. Whether it's a nice crisp macaroon or a kimchee burrito, this culinary experience is something everyone should enjoy. Vendors include Brooklyn Wok Shop, Domo Taco, Mexicue, Milk Bar, Red Hook Lobster Pound, and many more. Market is open 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. from now through July 26.
