Transition reality
Is Donald Trump’s transition effort falling behind? With some stalling as Mike Pence took over the transition team and the purging of several members, there’s been speculation that Trump’s team is unprepared to accomplish everything it will need to before the GOP businessman takes the oath of office. But how does his transition timeline compare to previous presidents-elect?
Tough talk
On the campaign trail, a tough-talking Donald Trump vowed to “bomb the hell out of ISIS” and put an end to what he called China’s economic “rape” of the United States. We look in more detail at the real-world challenges behind those rhetorical flourishes, and find a far-more complex battle with ISIS than bombs alone can resolve, and conflicts of interest from the outset in dealing with the economic giant of Asia.
Team building
President-elect Donald Trump has begun making offers for some posts in his administration, according to sources with direct knowledge of the deliberations. We’ve got a list of Mr. Trump’s overwhelming favorites for a handful of key positions -- all of them highly regarded by the incoming president.
#GrabYourWallet
Some consumers are protesting Donald Trump’s presidential victory by letting their money do the talking. The #GrabYourWallet campaign is pushing major retailers to drop products linked to the president-elect and his daughter Ivanka. The organizers of the campaign tell CBS News what they hope accomplish.
Business minded
Wilbur Ross, a leading contender to be appointed as the nation’s next Secretary of Commerce, is viewed by proponents as a savior of distressed companies and by detractors as a predatory “vulture investor.” We look at the financier’s career, and why he could be a controversial choice for the government post.
Fear in the Valley
Silicon Valley may be ground zero for innovation, but it seems unprepared for the earthquake caused by the election of Donald Trump. The president-elect is no friend to their tax breaks, immigration needs and job-automating technologies. Now some industry players are vowing to fight back.
Jon Stewart
After he left “The Daily Show,” the presidential campaign went on without Jon Stewart’s unique, satirical point of view. We catch up with Stewart to discuss his new book about the more than 16 years he spent at the Comedy Central program, and he’s quick to offer his post-election analysis.
Kindness of strangers
In our “CBS This Morning” series, “A More Perfect Union,” we highlight how Americans have more in common than headlines might suggest. Today we meet with a father in Utah who’s sharing his gratitude for a group of strangers who came together online to bring his late wife’s voice back to life.
Newsman
After 52 years at CBS News, senior White House correspondent Bill Plante has called it a career -- and what a career it has been. Plante covered every major story of the past half-century, from the Civil Rights Movement to the election of the first black president. We look back, in honor of a legend.
