America and Muslims
CBS News asked a random sample of more than a 1,000 Americans whether they believed there should be a temporary ban on Muslims entering the U.S. from other countries, and whether they felt Muslims in the country already should be monitored by the government -- in essence, whether they agree with Republican front-runner Donald Trump.
Fiancé visa
San Bernardino shooter Tashfeen Malik was already radicalized when she slipped through the K-1 fiancé visa system into the U.S. She was interviewed at the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan, vetted by five different government agencies and her identity was checked against a terror watch list. Now the government is trying to figure out whether the already rigorous screening process can be improved.
Los Angeles River
Much of the Los Angeles River does looks more like an open-air sewer than a mighty waterway. But now L.A. is prioritizing its restoration, and in a move that created a bit of controversy, the city has turned to an architect famous for beautiful and brash buildings to help devise a solution.
Hoverboards grounded
One of the hottest gifts of the holiday season is facing a mounting backlash. Starting today, passengers will no longer be allowed to bring hoverboards on Delta flights. The airline joins American, United and others in banning the trendy devices amid fears of batteries catching fire.

The Tiny Jewel Box, a mom-and-pop shop in Washington D.C., opens its doors to the likes of President Obama, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura. Once upon a time, it was just known for vintage jewelry, but now the store has become a go-to for Washington's movers and shakers.
