GOP's Zellers Won't Run For Re-Election To House

Republican Kurt Zellers, a former House speaker now running for governor, will not run for another term in the House. Zellers announced his decision Monday. He has represented the Twin Cities suburbs of Maple Grove and Osseo in the state House since 2003. Last year, Zellers launched a bid to challenge Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton this November. He's one among a crowded field of Republicans seeking to unseat Dayton, and Zellers' plan to run in August's Republican primary would have complicated a simultaneous state House re-election bid.

Snow Causes Multiple Crashes In Twin Cities

A fresh round of snow made for a tough Saturday afternoon on roads in the Twin Cities metro area. At Interstate 35 and 210th Street in Lakeville, there was a crash scene involving nearly a dozen vehicles. Several of them also slid into the median.

Champlin Man Rescued From Flaming Car

A Champlin man is being treated for burns after his car ran off the road and then burst into flames Thursday morning. The accident happened in Maple Grove on Highway 169 just north of 494 shortly after 5 a.m. Officers had minutes to get 58-year-old Douglas Aure out of his car before it was fully engulfed in flames.

Nice Weather & New Toys Make Fun Day After Christmas

Santa dropped off a lot of new sleds, skates and skis in Minnesota this week, and the day after Christmas was just about perfect to use them. Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove was crowded with people hitting the slopes on Thursday. "Man, this is the best way to burn energy," said Manie Vaidyanathan of Maple Grove. It was the kind of winter day that Minnesotans live for: mild temperatures and snow that's nice and thick.

Police: Tip From Ex-Wife Led To Robbery Suspect

Authorities say a tip from an ex-wife pointed them to a Sartell man suspected in a string of armed robberies along Interstate 94 from the St. Cloud area to the Minneapolis suburbs. Police released a security video after a masked man robbed a Burger King in Maple Grove Wednesday. The ex-wife of 34-year-old Douglas Wayne Gravelle saw the video on the news and told police he wore the same clothes at a child support hearing. She said he's addicted to prescription drugs and unemployed.

Henn. Co. Centers Drop Passports Starting Nov. 1

Hennepin County Service Centers will discontinue passport application processing at all locations beginning Nov. 1. Officials say new federal regulations, aiming to curb passport fraud, require separation between passport offices and offices which handle driver's licenses and birth records. Passport application processing will continue at the Brookdale, Maple Grove, Ridgedale and Southdale centers through the end of the month.

Maple Grove Man Charged For Vandalizing Pro Gay Marriage Church

A 45-year-old Maple Grove man has been charged with vandalizing a Maple Grove church, writing anti-gay marriage slogans and bible verses on the building. Lonny Lloyd Roseland, who's wheelchair-bound, was charged with third-degree damage to property and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanor offenses.

Many Area Trees, Weakened By Storms, Pose Dangers

It's been more than two weeks since a storm rocked the Twin Cities. Thousands of trees fell, some of which are still lying down around the area. But there may be some trees that are still standing tall that could be dangerous. Keith Yetzer with Yetzer Tree Service in Maple Grove says even though his team's helped clear dozens of trees in the past few weeks, he says there are still some dangerous ones out there.
