March temps ran nearly 6 degrees above average in Twin Cities. What will April bring?

Looking back at the weather in the month of March, a lot of people think about our snowstorm, but temperatures were actually above average in the Twin Cities.

March in the metro tied for the 11th-warmest month on record. Some spots were close to 6 degrees above average for the month.

When it comes to snowfall, that storm on March 14 and 15 left 8.8 inches. That was the most snow from any storm system throughout this season, and that did put us above average by 3.1 inches for the month of March. Precipitation-wise, we are actually below average by just about a half an inch. 

So what does April have to hold? When it comes to averages for the month, in the Twin Cities, we start the month with a high around 50 and we end the month with a high around 63. Lows start the month around freezing, with 44 by the end of the month. 

We average about 3 inches when it comes to precipitation. and yes, we get snow in the month of April, averaging about 3.5 inches.

Now looking at the outlook for the month of April, we are really still looking at equal chances when it comes to temperature trend — not leaning warmer or colder across Minnesota and western Wisconsin. When it comes to precipitation, we are trending wetter than average for Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The month is definitely starting off that way, with a couple of storms in the forecast.
