The military launched a large-scale operation overnight in parts of the occupied Palestinian territory. Officials said at least 10 Palestinians have been killed. Israel carried out raids across the West Bank.
On Friday, Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling said there were a total of 74 arrests over the four days of the convention, and most of those happened on Tuesday when a smaller group of protesters clashed with police for a few hours.
While organizers predicted the rally Thursday night would be the biggest, it appears to be the smallest. Charlie De Mar reports.
"The exclusion of a Palestinian American from the stage felt so deeply offensive, so deeply shocking that it left us stunned," said Abbas Alawieh, an uncommitted delegate from Michigan.
As Vice President Kamala Harris prepares to accept her party's nomination for president at the Democratic National Convention, a group of uncommitted delegates has organized a sit-in outside the United Center, demanding that a Palestinian American be allowed to speak on stage.
Police Supt. Larry Snelling said the protest went smoothly Wednesday because safety was discussed.
"We had a group that showed up, and they showed up with the intent on committing acts of violence and vandalism. That was their intent," Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling said
More than 270 different organizations came together to form the coalition to protest.
A standoff between protesters and officers at Union Park followed hours later.
Several protest groups are gathering at Union Park on Monday, just blocks from the Democratic National Convention at the United Center, as part of a large protest in support of Palestine, and to call for an end of U.S. aid to Israel.
