Mark Ishaug is chief executive officer of Thresholds, which provides mental health and substance abuse services in Illinois. He joins Marie Saavedra to address concerns about potential cuts to Medicaid from the budget resolution approved by U.S. House Republicans.
"Let's be clear, January 20th was an inauguration, not a coronation. Congress is given the power to appropriate the funding. The executive branch cannot unilaterally disregard those appropriations," Raoul said.
The online system for federal health funding warned of delays due to executive orders after the Trump administration announced a freeze.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said the sweeping cuts confirmed by the White House to thousands of programs — ones that fund everything from highway projects to kids’ lunches, drug addiction assistance to medical research labs — was going to include cuts to Medicaid too, until a late-day pivot. As Chris Tye reports. Pritzker said the Trump administration was lying in saying this was not the case.
