On Wednesday, local nurses called on Governor JB Pritzker and the director of the Illinois Department of Public Health to require masks again at all healthcare facilities.
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, 441 people were admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 last week, a 28% increase from the week before.
Within the CBS 2 viewing area, there have been five rabid bats each in Kankakee and Lake counties, four in Cook County, three in McHenry County, and one each in Will and DeKalb counties.
A total of 27 rabid bats have been found in Illinois this year so far.
The Illinois Department of Public Health is now launching its own investigation.
