The airport says that "while it's not illegal to be homeless in Chicago, it is illegal to trespass without any legitimate business."
Two employees at the airport say they are concerned for their safety. They shared what they see in the overnight hours. CBS 2's Marissa Perlman reports.

The count will run from 9 p.m. until midnight tonight with the goal of getting an accurate number of people who do not have homes.

"Right now, the priority is building people better shelter while they're out on the streets, getting people heaters and propane. So that they can stay warm in their tents."
Studies show that in Illinois, nearly 40,000 public school students experience homelessness each school year.
Participants also want to let young people who are homeless know they are not alone.
People from all around the Chicago area will spend the night away from their homes and sleep out in support of young people who are homeless.

Last year alone, La Casa Norte served more than 24,000 people at shelters, drop-in centers, and through housing programs and other support services.
The homeless man is known as the CandyMan not because he gives out any candy, but because his friendship with Stacy Roszak started over a candy bar. CBS 2's Sabrina Franza reports on the fight after his shelter was taken away.
"They saw me and they helped me when I thought there was no help. So it's like, I wouldn't turn my back on them."

It's a first-of-its-kind community center for homeless youth.

There was another fire in the same underpass on March 22, which took out six tents in the encampment.
There have been two fires in as many months in an Uptown neighborhood tent city. Both times, propane tanks that residents were using to keep warm exploded.
