Studies show that in Illinois, nearly 40,000 public school students experience homelessness each school year.
Participants also want to let young people who are homeless know they are not alone.
People from all around the Chicago area will spend the night away from their homes and sleep out in support of young people who are homeless.
During National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, we're speaking with two women on a mission to help those in need: Archana Liggins, founder of Bag Lady Outreach, a non-profit that works to provide families with much-needed toiletries; and Tenille Jackson, founder of the Chicagoland Mom Squad.

Last year alone, La Casa Norte served more than 24,000 people at shelters, drop-in centers, and through housing programs and other support services.

It's a first-of-its-kind community center for homeless youth.
"Our community's feelings about this are complex and the concerns are complex," said Ald. Maria Hadden (49th).
There was another fire in the same underpass on March 22, which took out six tents in the encampment.
There have been two fires in as many months in an Uptown neighborhood tent city. Both times, propane tanks that residents were using to keep warm exploded.
"We're a team of social service professionals here to help the homeless population, and they're here to protect. The police are here to protect the community. So it frees up a lot of their time," said Mario Avila, street outreach manager for homeless outreach group Beds Plus.
