Elevated fire threat persists due to dry air and breezy conditions in North Texas
It was a windy day across the entire state of Texas, with strong gusts out of the WSW pushing dust from the western portion of the state into North Texas.
Wind gusts topped 80 mph for parts of West Texas.
Here in North Texas, our highest gusts were generally west of I-35, as expected, where peak gusts were in the 55-65 mph range.
Fortunately, the winds are dying down. Wind Alerts have dropped as of this evening, and overnight, winds will be calm briefly before our breeze kicks back in on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday will not be nearly as windy as Friday, but we will still be dealing with wind gusts of 25-35 MPH. On Saturday, winds will be out of the northwest, ushering in cooler air for the weekend.
Our fire threat remains Elevated to Critical on Saturday as very low humidity remains in place, with gusty winds.
Sunday will be less breezy, but the breeze returns next week, as does that elevated to critical fire threat.
Avoiding things that may cause a spark will remain very important, as well as avoiding outdoor burning, and never throw cigarette butts out the window.
