Philadelphia 76ers trade Caleb Martin to Dallas Mavericks
The 76ers have traded forward Caleb Martin to the Mavericks for guard Quentin Grimes and reacquiring their 2025 second-round pick from Dallas.
The trade comes days after the Mavericks shocked the NBA by sending Luka Doncic to the Lakers in a blockbuster. In his introductory press conference with the Lakers on Tuesday, Doncic said the transition to Los Angeles was "emotionally really hard."
Martin leaves Philadelphia after playing just 31 games. The 29-year-old signed a four-year contract with the Sixers in free agency. The 6-foot-5 forward averaged 9.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists for Philadelphia.
At 19-29, the Sixers are having a disappointing season after making headlines in the offseason. Philadelphia signed Paul George to a max contract and Martin in free agency. Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey were each extended. Embiid has played just 13 games and hasn't suited up since Jan. 4. Embiid, Maxey and George have played just 10 games together this season.
Grimes' time in Dallas was also short-lived. The Mavericks traded for Grimes in the summer.
The 24-year-old Grimes is averaging 10.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 47 games this season. He averaged 22.8 minutes with Dallas and started 12 games. He's shooting 39% from three-point range.
Grimes is a restricted free agent after the season. He will wear No. 25 for the Sixers
The Sixers and Mavericks (26-24) will tip off Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
The NBA trade deadline is 3 p.m. Thursday.
