Tony Peterson

Tony Peterson joined the WCCO-TV team in August 2002 as a general assignment photojournalist and now works as an MSJ (Multi-Skilled Journalist). Even though he was born and raised in Minnesota, he's lived across the country developing his skills.

Anthony "accidentally" found his dream career while living in Southern California, pursuing his goal to become a police officer for the Los Angeles Police Department. Needing a summer job, his sister-in-law told him they were hiring photojournalists at KMIR in Palm Springs. Anthony rode along with a photojournalist and was hooked. Several weeks into the job, he was sent to interview Chevy Chase. Afterwards, he was driving back to the station when life's trajectory changed.

A family that had moved from Mexico to the United States was driving on the freeway when the hitch broke, separating the trailer from the minivan. The vehicle rolled multiple times. A 4-year-old boy was coughing up blood while trailer paramedics tended to him lying on the road. Anthony was only a few feet away and had stopped filming. He and the boy locked eyes; then the boy passed away. Anthony decided he would tell stories for the rest of his life in honor of this boy.

Anthony has covered major events in all arenas of life. He is a licensed drone pilot, operates ENG & SAT Trucks, writes, edits and shoots many of his own stories. Since a near-death "Black Widow" experience in 2023, Anthony has tried to create positive stories about people making a positive difference in our society.

Delivering news of the day or telling the stories all around us, Anthony loves his career, his colleagues and WCCO Television.
