Garza joins at least a dozen colleagues on City Council who have either stepped down mid-term since being elected in 2019, or announced they won't run again in 2023.
"I have always strived to do my best for the residents and businesses in the Lakeview community and have been honored by the remarkable opportunity to serve the residents of the 44th Ward for almost twenty years," Tunney said.
Selling the Thompson Center has been a priority for Gov. JB Pritzker since he took office in 2019. He finalized a sale agreement back in March.
All three options would preserve the stadium's iconic colonnades, while expanding capacity from 61,500 seats to 70,000 seats.
The officers involved were not wounded, but they were taken to the hospital for observation.
"My decision to retire prior to the completion of this term is a difficult and deeply personal one. At this point in my life, I have deepening responsibilities towards family and friends. These personal issues mandate that I step down now," Smith said.
Lightfoot personally urged aldermen not to return the speed camera threshold back to 10 mph: "We need to take more steps to slow people down."
"No one performing these acts, filming these acts, organizing these acts takes this government seriously when it comes to thinking that we are actually trying to do something about it," Ald. Raymond Lopez (15th) said.
The mayor's proposal would add a $1 surcharge to taxi fares of up to $20, a $2 surcharge for fares of up to $40, and a $3 surcharge for fares above $40 whenever the AAA's average monthly price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Chicago rises above $5.
Osterman has represented the 48th Ward – which includes parts of the Edgewater, Andersonville, and Uptown neighborhoods – since he was first elected in 2011.
