A native of the South Side, Shardaa graduated from Columbia College Chicago, where she earned her B.A. in journalism, and is a proud graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School. She is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
When she's not chasing a story, Shardaa loves to spend time with her family, dogs and exploring the city. You can probably catch her at a Bears, Bulls, White Sox, or Cubs game.

Saturday's gathering was the first major "large group" incident in the downtown area since July 30, when hundreds of young people gathered in the same area and looted stores.
Simon Brown Sr., 59, was killed in the shooting, and prosecutors said a second person who was shot in the head died of their injuries early Thursday morning.
"We can provide that now and no other facility in the Midwest can say that."
Rodgerick O'Neal is charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Loyce Wright. Police said they were former co-workers who might have had a previous argument.
"(It) connects to that cultural relevancy for our children where they're not only able to learn about these historic figures, but they're also able to learn about people who look like them."
Prosecutors say a day before the murder, Jimmy Smith told someone he was going to rob the store and he was going to get the money no matter what.
Five Kenwood players, their head coach and two assistant coaches were ruled ineligible from further participating this season.
The shooting killed 16-year-old Daveon Gibson and wounded two other Senn students – boys ages 15 and 16.
A member of the School City of Hammond school board said officials are looking to fix a $15 million to $30 million shortfall.
"They say, 'Hey we heard about your loss. And we're here to support you.' What that says to a student is you see me and you know what I'm going through. What that has done, with the amount of fights, have literally driven down the number of fights."
Parade organizers believe more than 30,000 people filled the parade route.
