Jan. 6 commission bill unlikely to pass Senate

Senate Republicans appeared set early Friday to block a House-passed bill creating a commission to investigate the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Republicans have reversed their initial support for an investigation in recent months, arguing their party should focus instead on retaking Congress in the 2022 midterm elections. CBS News congressional correspondent Kris Van Cleave joins "CBSN AM" live from Capitol Hill ahead of the vote.

Trump refers to national anthem protests

Saying that "Together, we are rediscovering the American way," President Trump called out Preston Sharp, a 12-year-old seated next to the First Lady, who started a movement to mark veterans' graves. He said Sharp was an example of someone who reminds the nation "why we salute our flag, why we put our hands on our hearts for the pledge of allegiance, and why we proudly stand for the national anthem," a nod to the protests that roiled the NFL during the 2017 season.
