Pacifist teacher, city councilman causes furor
City Council members in an L.A. suburb passed a resolution Tuesday night condemning and seeking the resignation of one of their colleagues who, in his work as a school teacher, called members of the U.S. military "the lowest of our low." But Councilman Gregory Salcido, who’s been on leave from El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera, gave no indication he would resign from the council. Speakers lined up to pepper him with criticism at a council meeting where the resolution was approved.
Flight evacuated just before takeoff
A Southwest Airlines plane was evacuated just before takeoff due to smoke in the cabin. The 139 passengers and five crew members got out with only a few minor injuries. CBS Los Angeles reports.

Born in Maryland, chef Michael Voltaggio got his first job in the culinary world thanks to his brother, a sous chef at a local hotel restaurant. After an apprenticeship at the prestigious Greenbrier Resort and jobs with renowned chefs like Charlie Palmer and Jose Andres, he broke out on his own. In 2011, he opened Los Angeles's Ink and it was soon named GQ's Best New Restaurant in America. Voltaggio joins "CBS This Morning: Saturday" to discuss his culinary journey.

Heavy rains have struck areas ravaged by wildfires months earlier. Loose Earth – left behind by destroyed trees and shrubbery -- have allowed floodwaters to bring mud and debris onto roads and into neighborhoods Tuesday. At least 20,000 people have been evacuated and at least a dozen were killed. CBS News correspondent Carter Evans joins CBSN to discuss the deadly destruction.
