Pentagon assessing intelligence in suspected chemical attack
The U.S. is still considering military action in Syria after an apparent chemical attack. But the head of the Russian military warned that if the lives of Russian officers in Syria are threatened, Russia will retaliate. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports.
Attacking Syria?
President Trump tweeted early Wednesday that Russia should "get ready" for incoming U.S. missiles in Syria. The president vowed a response to last weekend's suspected chemical attack carried out by Syrian government forces that killed dozens of civilians. In spite of President Trump's tweet, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Wednesday that all options are on the table for a U.S. response. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin joins CBSN to discuss how the U.S. could retaliate.
Prosecuting border crossings
Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday told a group of sheriffs from border states that his goal is to prosecute everyone who crosses the border illegally. Damon Martinez, former U.S. Attorney to New Mexico and a Democratic candidate for New Mexico's 1st Congressional District, spoke to CBSN about why he thinks Sessions' idea is dangerous.
Senators push to protect Mueller
A bipartisan group of senators are pushing to protect special counsel Robert Mueller. The legislation comes after the FBI raided the home and office of Michael Cohen, President Trump's personal attorney. Mr. Trump then lashed out at the special counsel, calling the raids an "attack on our country." CBS News justice reporter Paula Reid joins CBSN with more on President Trumps' role in this investigation.
Paul Ryan not seeking re-election
House Speaker Paul Ryan announced on Wednesday that he will not seek re-election. "It’s easy for it to take care of everything in your life and you just can’t let that happen," Ryan said. He plans to leave in January. CBSN political contributor Zeke Miller joins CBSN with more on the possible impact of Republicans chances in the midterm elections.
Trump outpaces military, intelligence assessments in tweets on Syria
