Deadly shooting in Wawa parking lot in Toms River, N.J., under investigation, prosecutors say

A deadly shooting in the parking lot of a Wawa in Toms River Friday morning is under investigation. 

The shooting happened around 7:20 a.m. at the convenience store at the corner of Route 37 and Garfield Avenue, prosecutors said. One person was shot and killed. 

Video from Chopper 2 shows police tape around a pickup truck. Police say that's where the victim was shot. 

Investigators were processing the scene, including the pickup truck. 

So far, few details about the shooting have been disclosed. Police have not released the name of the victim. There's also no word from investigators as yet about what may have led up to the violence.

"I saw the police cars, several of them going down this way," said customer Robin Devoursney. "I knew something had happened. I didn't know where or what it was." 

Multiple agencies, including the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Toms River police and the county sheriff's office, are investigating. 

For much of the morning, Wawa regulars were met with a large police presence. 

"Every entrance was covered by police. I mean, just up and down, and I'm like, what is going on? And then I hear that somebody was shot," one customer said. "It's unfortunate. It's sad that at a Wawa somebody gets shot to death."
