Tornado warning for parts of New Jersey expires as storms pose flooding threat; latest weather forecast

A tornado warning for parts of South Jersey expired as heavy storms moved through the Delaware Valley, leading to severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings for the entire CBS News Philadelphia viewing area.

Today is the fourth straight NEXT Weather Alert day for the Philadelphia region, though it's due to storms and flooding, not the heat. The storms are expected to bring flooding rain and the chance for severe storms, mainly in the form of damaging winds.

The entire CBS News Philadelphia viewing area is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m.

New Jersey declared a state of emergency at 2 p.m. because of the weather.

A considerable flash flood warning is in effect for Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean counties until 7:15 p.m. Another flash flood warning is in effect in Atlantic, Burlington and Cape May counties until 10 p.m.

The Storm Prediction Center has our area in a moderate risk for flooding, which is a 3 out of 4 on the risk scale. The primary time frame for the greatest impacts will be 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a heavy focus near the evening commute.

Flooding causes Amtrak service to stop

Amtrak said all rail service between Wilmington, Delaware, and Philadelphia has stopped due to the flooding caused by severe storms.

"We are working to establish and provide a delay time," Amtrak wrote. "Once a route is available, anticipate residual delays. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience caused."
