The woman working in the subway booth saw a man who appeared to be dressed like a contractor. According to police, the suspect pulled out a gun, took out duct tape and rope and tied her up.
He's accused of stealing three vehicles, robbing a man and attempting to rob two others at gunpoint.
Police were still investigating the cause of the accident. Cross Bay Boulevard was to remain shut down in both directions for an indefinite period of time, officials said.
"We're in favor of a school, it's just a matter of finding the right location. There are serious problems, houses all around, a narrow street," Community Board 11 spokesman Jerry Iannece told CBS 2's John Slattery.
Nicolas Almonte, 27, is charged with multiple counts of robbery, attempted robbery and unlawful imprisonment. He's accused of stealing three vehicles, robbing a man and attempting to rob two others at gunpoint.
In all, the suspect carjacked three vehicles, robbed four people, waved a gun at six others, totally terrorizing and otherwise quiet neighborhood, police said.
