Man Dead, Suspect In Custody Following Stabbing In Elmhurst

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Police have a suspect in custody following a fatal stabbing in Elmhurst, Queens on Monday afternoon.

As WCBS 880's Alex Silverman reported, a 69-year-old man and a younger man got into some sort of confrontation around 1:30 p.m. under the elevated 7 train tracks at Elmhurst Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue.

It remains unclear what led to the stabbing, but several witnesses said they saw the whole situation unfold.

"When you see somebody with a blade, with a knife, they all run away," witness Eddie DeJesus told Silverman.

Another witness said the victim cried out for help during the attack.

"Yelling in Spanish 'help me, help me,'" the man told Silverman.

That witness said the attacker began to run up the steps to the 7 train but turned back toward his victim.

"Stabbed him again," the man told Silverman.

He and some other onlookers chased the suspect for six blocks before police arrested him.

The older man was taken by ambulance to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Silverman reported.
