NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani announces two senior members of his administration
New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani announced two senior administration officials Wednesday.
Mamdani announced Jahmila Edwards as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and Catherine Almonte Da Costa as Director of Appointments.
Since 2015, Edwards has served as the associate director of District Council 37, the largest public employee union in New York City. She previously held positions at the Department of Education and the New York City public advocate.
Da Costa began her career at the Office of Appointments, and has worked for the New York City Census as well as at Sotheby's as the global head of equity and impact.
"New Yorkers have entrusted us with a responsibility. They voted for an administration that will work every day to make our city more affordable, safe and to make the work of government efficient and excellent," Mamdani said. "We can deliver on this promise, we will, but only if we have the brightest minds in this city leading these efforts."
Mamdani previously announced that he was trying to raise $4 million to help fund his transition, which is not eligible for public matching funds. The effort has been largely successful, with more than $3 million raised thus far from nearly 30,000 donors, with an average donation of $88. The campaign previously said 95% of the donations have been under $250.
The transition fundraising comes as Mamdani's team vets more than 71,000 applications for jobs in his administration.
