NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- Derek Jeter doesn't agree with Hank Steinbrenner's comments about a lack of hunger on the Yankees last season, though he has "no problem with it."
"When you don't win, people always say that the team wasn't hungry," Jeter said Tuesday. "We got beat by a team that was better than us in that series. That's the bottom line. I wouldn't say there was a lack of hunger, I just think we just didn't play as well. That's why we lost."
Steinbrenner said Monday that some of the players were "too busy building mansions and doing other things" after winning the 2009 World Series.
Jeter was having a multimillion dollar home built last year, when New York lost in the AL championship series to Texas after fading in the second half of the season and winding up with the AL wild card.
"My name wasn't brought up," said Jeter. "He didn't say my name. I know there's an assumption, but I look at the positive side of it. My name didn't come out of his mouth."

Jeter said he understands most of Steinbrenner's comments, but "the house, I didn't understand. That's a first. That's funny, I think. I'm not moving, so we won't be talking about this again."
"I think, maybe, they celebrated too much last year," Steinbrenner said Monday. "Some of the players, too busy building mansions and doing other things and not concentrating on winning. I have no problem saying that."
"Owners can say whatever they want to say," Jeter said. "They're owners, they're entitled to their opinion. You don't always have to necessarily agree with their opinions, but they can say what they want to say. I have no problem with it."
