Woodbridge, N.J. Babysitter Charged After Boy, 6 Months, Dies In Her Care
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A 62-year-old Woodbridge, New Jersey woman was charged with child endangerment this week, after a 6-month-old boy died while in her care.
Marianne McIntire-Caulfield was charged Tuesday with one count of endangering the welfare of a child, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey.
McIntire-Caulfield surrendered at police headquarters in Woodbridge on Wednesday. Bail was set at $100,000.
An investigation determined McIntire-Caulfield was babysitting as many as eight infants in her home in the Iselin section of Woodbridge. The home had unsanitary conditions, investigators said.
She called police at 4:47 p.m. Dec. 1 when she noticed the boy was in distress. He died shortly thereafter at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, prosecutors said.
Autopsy results haven't been released pending results of toxicological testing at the Middlesex County Medical Examiner's office.
The investigation continued late Wednesday. Anyone with information was asked to call Detective Jorge Quesada of the Woodbridge Police Department at (732) 634-7700, extension 2114, or Detective Gregory Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at (732) 745-4054.
