Weekend Confection Competition Will Determine NYC's Best Cupcakes

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Who makes the best cupcakes in New York City?

Openhouse Gallery, a Soho spot dedicated to hosting some of the most creative pop-ups in the city, is holding a one-day competition this weekend to determine the answer.

On Sunday, New York City institutions like Alice's Tea Cup, Billy's Bakery, ChikaLicious, and Sun in Bloom, a vegan, gluten-free cupcake shop in Brooklyn, will compete for the title at the gallery's  Cupcake Cakewalk.

Portions of the event's proceeds will go to Wellness in the Schools, a New York City-based non-profit which works to motivate students at public schools in the city to get active and eat healthily.

The cupcake competition will come one day after another dessert-themed event taking place at the downtown Manhattan space. Cool Cravings, taking place on Saturday, will feature eight frozen dessert artisans from the Empire State who craft unique concoctions like coconut-based dairy free ice cream and raw, vegan soft serve.
