Videos Of Bridgewater-Raritan Students Fighting Removed From Facebook Page

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Down for the count.

The person controlling a Facebook page featuring videos of fights at a local high school has now taken down those clips, CBS 2's Alice Gainer reported Wednesday.

Regardless, one Bridgewater school has been left with a black eye.

Girls pulling hair and throwing punches; boys attacking one another in the lunchroom during and after school; they are videos posted on a Facebook page that CBS 2 showed you Tuesday night.

Students at Bridgewater-Raritan High School place the blame on underclassmen for the recent outbreak of fighting.

"It's out of control. I personally think it's out of control," Bridgewater-Raritan High School senior Kimberlee Van Houten said.

"Freshmen who want their five minutes of fame, who think they're top dog now that they came up from the middle school," senior Alex Franco said.

"They're fighting so people know who they are," senior Miles Morgan added.

When asked for comment Tuesday, the schools superintendent walked away from CBS 2 cameras, but did address the issue.

In a statement to parents, the schools superintendent said disciplinary action had already been taken on those involved with the fights. However, he said there was nothing that could legally be done about the Facebook page.

That page now has more than 1,000 "likes," but the videos were removed Wednesday morning. Whoever created the page posted, "I would rather stay anonymous then be known as the idiot who got caught."

But according to some students and parents that person is drawing negative attention to a high-ranked school, making everyone look pretty idiotic.

"The reputation we're going to have is the fights page, and that's really not a good reputation," Van Houten said.

"Great town, great community, so you're gonna have some bad apples," another student added.

Many students said they now hope to restore their school's shining image.

The schools superintendent said he believes none of the fights are connected. He said there hasn't been a fight since March 15. This week the students have been on spring break.
