Video Purportedly Shows Another NYPD Officer Using Choke Hold On Suspect In East Harlem

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Video has surfaced of another NYPD officer apparently placing a suspect in a choke hold in Harlem.

On July 14, police struggled to arrest 22-year-old Ronald Johns at the Lexington Avenue and 125th Street subway station, CBS 2 reported.

The video shows the police officer with an arm around Johns' neck as he struggles to arrest him. The video also shows the officer punching the suspect.

Johns was charged with fare evasion, resisting arrest, and trespassing, CBS 2 reported.

The two officers in the video said they were injured in the struggle. Both were on medical leave as of Wednesday.

NYPD officials told 1010 WINS they are investigating the incident.

Though the video has just surfaced, the incident occurred just days before Eric Garner died while in police custody following a chokehold placed on him by an NYPD officer.

Garner was laid to rest Wednesday as his Staten Island community continued its call for justice.

The officer seen placing the choke hold on Garner has been placed on modified reassignment, and there are multiple investigations ongoing.
