Two Injured When SUV Crashes Into Store In Queens

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- An SUV crashed into a store in Queens on Sunday.

It happened around 4:30 in the afternoon, at the intersection of Rockaway Boulevard and 109th Avenue.

Two people were injured, but not seriously, police said.

The crash came as a shock for shoppers at the South Ozone Park discount store, CBS2's Dave Carlin reported.

The SUV finally came to a stop on a bed of broken glass and crushed display shelves in the store's toy aisle.

"I was back in the warehouse so I heard the noise," Tammy Murray said.

Murray said the two people injured were hit by debris and are expected to make a full recovery.

Two men claim to have dodged injury, possibly death, with seconds to spare.

"I was walking right along here behind the yellow stoppers right here," Damil Martin said, "He saw it and he yoked me up and just pushed me really hard."

"I just grabbed him and pushed him out of the way. I got scared and grabbed him," Tony Modica said.

Workers said there is in-store security camera footage that captured video of the SUV crashing into the store. Managers said that as of Sunday night that footage was only available to investigators.

Investigators believe the driver, who witnesses said appeared to be in her 40s or 50s, may have hit the accelerator pedal thinking it was for the brakes. She has not been charged.
