You don't need to head to New England to take in the gorgeous views of autumn's fall foliage. Head upstate to the Adirondacks for a hike on these scenic trails. If trekking through mountains isn't your thing, check out the rivers, where you can take a gondola ride, go trout fishing, or simply dine al fresco during an intimate picnic for two. If flying's more up your alley, take a hot-air balloon ride over Lake George. Best of all, admission to Adirondack Park is free.

Just because the cooler weather has settled in doesn't mean you can't enjoy a scenic view of the beach. If you're looking to relax, head to Montauk, located on the tip of Long Island. Book a stay at Gurney's Inn and detox in the sauna, steam room, or their famous indoor seawater pool. While you're there, take a tour of the Montauk Point Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in New York State.
