US Air Guitar Championship Semifinals

You guys, it's time for the US Air Guitar Championship Semifinals! Performers will show off their air guitar skills tonight at the Bowery Ballroom. Only three will advance to the finals, which will be held in Kansas City on August 9th. The winner of the finals will then go on to compete in the World Championships in Finland. Bjorn Turoque, star of the movie Air Guitar Nation, will return as host of the event while 2008 US & World Air Guitar Champion Hot Lixx Hulahan will take his place as judge. Get ready for the half time performance. Tickets are $20 and show starts at 9 p.m.
Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital in Crotona Park

Summer really is the best time of the year because the Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital series takes place across the five boroughs. Tonight, make your way to Crotona Park in the Bronx for an enchanting evening of favorite opera arias and duets featuring Mary-Jane Lee (soprano), Ginger Costa-Jackon (mezzo-soprano), and Yunpeng Want (baritone). Dan Saunders will accompany on piano. Event begins at 8 p.m. and admission is free.

If you're a fan of Shakespeare's Star Wars (because who isn't?) then make sure to grab your favorite costume and head over to Word in Brooklyn. Tonight, there will be a dramatic performance of select moments from the series while author Ian Doescher Skypes in for the occasion. Battles will be fought and plot points will be declaimed. The Queen of Merengue, Milly Quezada, will be at Lincoln Center to perform during the popular Midsummer Night Swing series. The powerful Latin singer will use her signature style to set the mood for instructor Rodney Lopez to teach the sensual yet lively dance that is the merengue. DJ George Nenadich will also be there to keep the tunes going. Dance lesson begins at 6:30 p.m. with live music starting at 8 p.m.
